Scratchie was started by two veterans of the construction industry, James Kell and Garry Mansfield.

In 2010, the pair worked with project teams to successfully pilot Scratchie’s predecessor, using printed scratch-cards that rewarded safe behaviour on the fitout of Australia’s first Apple Store. Kell then left the construction industry and Mansfield doubled down on safety, working as safety manager for one of Australia’s largest privately owned construction companies. The two stayed in touch.

Fast forward ten years, over a coffee Kell asked Mansfield what had progressed since that successful pilot. When the answer was ‘nothing’, the idea for Scratchie was born.
